Michael P. Sopchak Memorial Fund

This fund was established in the memory of one Michael P. Sopchakour most reliable friends and supporters, after his death. Michael P. Sopchak, who died in February 2003, was a longtime and assiduous member of the Binghamton Downtown Singers.

What is the mission of the fund?
To build an endowment capable of providing performance compensation to our soloists that both reflects their abilities and suitably rewards their dedication to both the art and to the Downtown Singers.

During his many years of membership he held an honored place as the spiritual heart and soul of the group and even its Poet Laureate, for by sharing his writing with fellow Singers he brought fresh beauty and meaning to the choral experience.

Michael always took a particular interest in the soloists who highlighted the group’s concerts, and that is why the purpose of the Memorial Fund in his name is to underwrite the cost of such soloists in the future.

The participation of accomplished soloists is an inspiration to the Singers and has the effect of lifting the performance as a whole to the highest level of enjoyment for the audience.
